Forward-thinking Bristolian producer gloomy has impressed this year, with an appearance at the Beat Boss 7 qualifiers as well as releases on Rapture 4D's Plasma Abuse and Aesthetic Kid's wave-oriented label Yung LDN. This week, he's returned with the self-released Jump Cannon EP, which takes the listener on two aural adventures.
The project's sombre, dystopian title track combines pulsating synth arpeggios with a striking, drawn-out bassline, while B-side "Spiders" is more tangibly influenced by the sparse, clunky melody lines and flitting percussion of early grime, with a modern twist on the synths and an unintelligible vocal sample adding extra depth to the production.
