Manchester's K.I.M.E reps his ends on 'From the Estate'

Moss Side recording artist K.I.M.E, formerly known as Shakz, has built up an extensive discography of forward-thinking hip hop releases over the last few years, including the EPs To Be Continued, Just 4 U and Not Your Average Adolescent. The 21-year-old Mancunian has always had an inclination towards grime, too, which he's explored occasionally on tracks like 2014's "Grime Sprayout" and 2016's "Still Dirty" and "V.I.MC", but we've never heard a full grime project from him before. That changes now, though. He's teamed up with fellow Manchester lyricist P1Caps for a joint EP entitled ShellyAnn Season, due for release tomorrow, 19 August.

The EP's lead single, solo track "From the Estate", dropped earlier this week. Production was handled by Pezmo, the 0161 beatmaker best known for his work on Aitch's "Straight Rhymez". K.I.M.E deploys his signature complex flows over a gritty, bassline-esque instrumental. In the accompanying music video, directed by NAYB├śRHOOD Cinematics, he assembles a group of friends to buss some dance moves on the high street.
