A forefather of the now-thriving Bristol grime scene, 35-year-old MC Slowie has long been putting his city on the map. Two years ago, he featured on Charlie Sloth's Fire in the Booth spin-off series Fire in the Streets; he's since appeared on Lamont's critically acclaimed single "Ar Kid", which made it onto wax, and recently performed multiple times at Love Saves the Day Festival. It seems he's gradually earning the respect he deserves, and his new Havoc in the Hive freestyle continues to build upon this.
Spitting over a Lee Wrizzle production for Elysium Records, the West Country MC interpolates lyrics from Wildchild's house classic "Renegade Master", transforming them into an altogether grittier number. The new video serves as a taster for what's to come from Slowie's new EP Snakes and Blaggers, forthcoming on Bristol label Durkle Disco. Speaking to us in May, label boss Koast revealed that the project will feature productions from local legends Lamont, Caski, Jakes and Gemmy.
