Premiere: MoreNight experiments with triplet rhythms on the inventive 'Type C'

After a strong debut release from Canadian grime star Tre Mission, Toronto imprint Bare Selection now looks to young Shrewsbury producer MoreNight for the follow-up, BARE SELECTION 002. You can stream the EP's second track "Type C" in full below, exclusively via Once Upon A Grime, before it drops on 7 January.

MoreNight's reputation is fast growing. He has a strong following on SoundCloud and has caught the eye of grime heavyweights such as Snowy and ScrufizzerBare Selection state: “He is one of the UK’s rising talents when it comes to making new-school garage and grime. The West Midlands-based producer is becoming known for his futuristic approach to sound design that gives his productions a distinct flavour. Bare Selection 002 is MoreNight’s first release with our label.”

"Type C" is certainly futuristic and experimental, as we begin with eerie pads and metallic synth droplets before commanding bass and structured percussion push the song forward. This song really gets interesting as a hypnotising triplet melody comes into play and guides the instrumental's flow. As MoreNight puts it: Both these tracks experiment with newer areas of production I haven’t touched until now. "Type C" features a heavier triplet rhythm - something I’ve never found easy to pull off - but I think it works for this one.”
