Kano returns with double single release of contrasting styles

Kano is back! We haven't seen much of K-A since his 2016 Mercury-nominated album Made in the Manor, a classic and without a doubt one of the best albums released within the past decade. Luckily we're in for a treat very soon, as his next album Hoodies All Summer is dropping 30 August.

In the meantime, Kano just dropped two singles last night: "Class of Deja", a nostalgic grime banger featuring D Double E and Ghetts; and "Trouble", a conscious hip-hop record.

"Class of Deja" is already one of my favourite grime tunes of the year. Three legends on one track, what more do you need? The seamless back-to-back between Kano and Ghetts on the second verse is iconic, followed and preceded by a solid hook delivered by D Double E.

"Trouble", unlike "Class of Deja", dropped with a 17-minute short movie entwined with the song playing at various points throughout. Both the song and the film itself, directed by Aniel Karia (also behind the show "Top Boy"), present a story about the rising knife crime and violence affecting London today, and the country at large.

You can listen to the song here instead, however, I'd highly recommend watching the full video!

This is a song that will make an impact. The way it lulls you into a sense of deep thought and enjoyment, only to suddenly cut into a dark snippet of reality half-way through, really serves well as a metaphor for what knife crime is like; life could be going well for you one day, and on the next you could be laying on the floor bleeding to death. That's what life is like for many people.

Kano's new album will no doubt be a classic, with features by Ghetts, D Double E, Lil Silva, Kojo Funds, and Popcaan. You can pre-order the album from Kano's website here. For more, be sure to follow Kano on Instagram and Twitter.
