Donation Dubs 005: February 2020

We're back again with another instalment of Donation Dubs, sharing some of our favourite tracks found while digging online each month. All are either free to download or pay-what-you-choose - and as always, make sure to support the artists featured in any way you can if you like what you hear!

This release takes tracks from a wide and unexpected range of genres – not often will you see Nine Inch Nails, Capo Lee and Double 99 listed together, but it’s a surprisingly cohesive collection. The remix of Headie One’s “Both” adds a euphoric, soaring instrumental to the drill anthem’s vocals, and “Flying Shaded”, a mashup of tracks from Wiley and Silk Road Assassins shares the same wavy energy. Capo Lee’s “Dream” also gets layered to a moodier, more laid-back instrumental from Jam City. You should listen to the contrasting harder breaks tracks remixes, too.

Mycas$hEnigma
This rolling, low-riding instrumental from Czech producer Myca$h features on his BiliRubin EP. The whole spread of sub-laden dubstep tracks deserve a listen, but “Enigma” is the grimiest of them – and the delayed punch of the suspense drop is the icing on the cake.

SBUERSREFIXES (END OF)
These early edits from SBUERS paved the way to him producing his own original instrumentals, but make the mistake of underestimating them. The 8-track release chops and twists cuts from the likes of Dot Rotten, Plastician, Novelist and Youngstar, embracing a rougher bootleg aesthetic that perfectly suits the results.

DJ Absurd - Lxvxmxn Wxrhexd
This Rinse France resident has been involved more than a few clashes, in both his home country’s scene and our own. DJ Absurd has compiled 22 recent wardubs, consisting of mostly grime but also featuring dubstep, jungle, dancehall and garage, into one pay-what-you-choose download. If you’re looking face-screwing heavyweight sends, look no further, and if you want to know more about the Paris-based producer, take a look at his recent interview with us.

Panix - December
DMWSOUND founder Panix changed up his style to give us a smooth Valentine’s Day special, “December”. The R&G flavour marries with elegant melodies and a warm, dubby bassline, blending together a sweet 140 treat.

Scratchy - Luna Run EP
To celebrate a year since they threw their first rave, KortexxLDN have supplied us with this instrumental EP from Roll Deep co-founder Scratchy. “Shuttle Bus” hits like a true oldschool grime/dubstep crossover, and “Boomerang” melts steel pans and brass stabs into a slow-wobbling bassline, while the stomping bonus track, “F64”, is scattered with glitched-out effects.
