Premiere: SWR supplies early garage energy on dark 2-step cut 'Step Back In'

Cocobolo Sound are on a roll at the moment. Just last week, the Bristol imprint release Fork and Knife & Rame’s Test Me EP, featuring the original track alongside a sick spread of remixes from Jakebob, Namaste and On1.

This time, they’ve drawn for some proper old-school energy from SWR with his Bill Bak / Step Back In double release. On 'Bill Bak', the 140 producer’s heavy-stepping style comes out to play, giving us a fat dose of original dubstep sound. The track could have been pulled straight out of a classic FWD>> night.

The focus right here, though, is on our premiere of 'Step Back In'. What begins as a moody 2-step cut quickly gets deeper and more complex - rough oscillating bass sits on top of shifting sub lines, while drawn-out, echoing effects meld with the sharp, scattered rhythms. As it reaches those dirty depths, the track is balanced by clean liquid synths that seep across the whole sound. Every element binds tightly together, making 'Step Back In' a perfect, nostalgic dark garage soundtrack for soaring in the shadows until the morning light.
